“Guardian of Glaslyn” captures the galactic core of the Milky Way rising above the stillness of Glaslyn Nature Reserve — a celestial figure watching over the land. As technology and human development progress, experiencing the night sky in all its awe is becoming increasingly difficult. Light pollution casts artificial domes that block the stars — just as the warning lights from a 220-metre wind turbine would. Glaslyn is a Bortle 2 dark sky site, meaning it is exceptionally dark and perfect for stargazing. The image reminds us that dark skies are part of our natural heritage, as vital as the forests and rivers below. When we protect the night from artificial light, we safeguard the rhythm of wildlife, the balance of ecosystems, and our own connection to the cosmos. Every star we can still see is a victory for the wild, unspoiled night.
